Uke No1 is progressing nicely and is now at the finishing stage. This means lots of ‘drying time’ so these breaks are an ideal time to proceed with Uke No2. Materials on this occasion will be solid mahogany for the sides and back, with a spruce top, and again, a Cedar neck. (These necks are being completely hand carved from a nice lump of Spanish Cedar obtained from http://www.eastkenttimber.co.uk/ )
The sides are traditionally built in two parts, but on this occasion I have opted to give it a try as a single piece and, so far, it seems to be a successful exercise. I’ll keep you informed how it goes! This Uke will also have considerably more decoration than No1, as it is an exercise in showing off abilities. Images soon.
